Mouflon Sheep...Chapter Two!

It all started with a picture of the Patio Ranch mouflon herd showing an exceptional ram standing in a mixed group of ewes and rams. Grant contemplated on that picture for a while and decided that he really liked the look of the large ram in the picture. Even though Grant had taken a 32" mouflon last March, he wanted another pure mouflon sheep...and he wanted that ram in the picture!

Grant hunted for 3 days for the big mouflon that he had set in his sights. Many great rams were seen, but not the special ram. Grant had returned to the lodge to get ready to depart and decided that he wanted to check the site where the ram was seen originally for one last time. The wind was really strong and coming from behind us. It was not an ideal situation, but Grant was about out of time for this trip. As he moved closer to the site, the backs of some sheep and finally the saddle patches and horns of large, mature rams could be seen. The wind turned into an ally at that point allowing Grant to do a slow, careful stalk to get within range and a clear view for a shot. Just as Grant was set, a strong gust of wind spooked the group and they separated to locate the source of their uneasiness. As they stood for a second, the big ram was alone to one side. Grant's .270 cracked and the last minute gamble had paid off. We want to congratulate Grant on his hunting skills and perserverance that led him to this special pure mouflon ram.
