Trans-Caspian Urial
Trans-caspian Urial (Ovis vignei arkal) – Originally from Turkmenistan and Iran, this striking sheep is still plentiful in parts of its native ranges, but is currently declining from competition with domestic animals and human pressures. This sheep is basically sandy-colored with eyes golden in color. The males will add a white bib and a white neck ruff in the winter coat as they mature. Older males normally exhibit full curl horns in the 30-40” range and the horns are a light color. Females will have horns that are much smaller than the males. This is a very rare animal to be found in or out of zoos.
