Addax
Addax (Addax nasomaculatus) - True desert animals, these large white antelope have a historical distribution in North Africa from the Nile River west to the Atlantic Ocean, encompassing most of the Sahara. Although the skin is a dark color to protect against the sun, the hair is white to help protect from the heat. Aside from the white body and a head/neck of grey-brown, the forehead sports a brown patch of hair and a white patch below each eye. These desert animals have broad rounded hooves to aid them in traveling over loose sand and can go for long periods of time without drinking free standing water. Both sexes have horns, with the males having more mass and twists. Individuals with 35” horns measured on the curl are common.
