Fallow Deer
Fallow Deer (Dama dama) - The most widely kept deer in the world, fallow deer are found on all continents except for Antarctica. Fallow deer were brought to the Texas Hill Country in the early 1930’s by Richard Friedrich as one of the earliest attempts at stocking exotics in Texas. Native to Asia Minor, colors vary from white to chocolate to spotted and many variations in between, probably due to the many centuries of domestication. Both males and females display a prominent Adam’s apple. The bucks display the most prominent fallow deer trait of large, palmate antlers with 30” beams and 4” palms being common.
